Sandwich Committee Allows New Shingles On Historic Property

Tab styled asphalt roof shingles

A battle over roof shingles appears to be finished in Sandwich. The town's historic district committee reconsidered a previous vote of denial this week and approved an application for the installation of polymer siding instead of wood on the former Newcomb Tavern, a historic property that dates back to the Colonial Era. Concerns had been aired about the polymer shingles not being appropriate for the historic district. The new shingles will apparently be indistinguishable from the old wooden ones.
