4/4/19

Yarmouth Police responded to a call Tuesday night from the RFK Juvenile Center at 137 Run Pond Road for a report that a resident had destroyed some property and broken into an office.

Arriving at the location, police observed two adult RFK staff members in the roadway trying to get a young male to calm down and return to the center.

The male was uncooperative and then attacked a police officer by punching him in the mouth.

The officer struggled with the attacker and went to the ground where the juvenile repeatedly struck the officer in the chest and then kicked him.

The officer deployed his Taser to subdue his attacker.

The 14 year old juvenile male was held in custody on 500-dollars cash bail and then transported over night to the Juvenile Detention Facility in Brockton.

He is currently in custody and will be arraigned today (Thursday) in Barnstable Juvenile Court on multiple charges including assault and battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and destruction of property.

The officer suffered minor injuries to his mouth, a hand and a knee.
