Nantucket Town Meeting Voters in a Giving Mood

At Town Meeting on Nantucket Tuesday night, voters gave approval to spending $20 million to buy property on the island to be used for affordable rental housing.

The Inquirer and Mirror reports there are still steps to take before that actually happens. The matter still needs approval at the ballot box at next Tuesday’s Annual Town Election.

The program will be under the supervision of the Affordable Housing Trust Fund, tasked with identifying the properties for purchase and potential further development.

Voters also gave thumbs up to allocating $5.2 million on a rotary at the intersection of Old south and Fairgrounds Roads, a new sidewalk on the south side of Old South Rd and improvements to Newtown Lane.
