Wareham Police Arrest Dirt Bike Operator

Wareham PD/Dirt Bike Stop

3/30/19

Thursday morning around 8:30, Wareham Police Sgt. Paul Somers was on patrol in the area of Tobey Road and Main Street.

While stopped at a stop sign, the officer observed a red dirt bike style motorcycle in his rearview mirror cross over the center line into oncoming traffic, then quickly cross in front of Sgt. Somer’s cruiser, going onto the shoulder of the road and then run through the stop sign.

The motorcycle, operated by 22 year old Markise Tomkinson of West Wareham, went under the South Wareham Bridge when he stalled the bike.

As Somers pulled up to Tomkinson, he restarted the bike and tried to get away, but was grabbed by another officer arriving at the scene and arrested.

Tomkinson faces a list of charges including operating after suspension of driver’s license, failure to stop for police and failure to stop at a stop sign plus negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

He was arraigned in Wareham District Court.
