Two Fishermen Rescued From Wellfleet Harbor After Boat Capsizes

Two fishermen were rescued Tuesday morning after their boat capsized in Wellfleet Harbor.

The Wellfleet Fire Department and Wellfleet Harbormaster were dispatched shortly after 8 a.m. for a report of an overturned boat with two people in distress in the area of Jeremy’s Point. Additional reports confirmed the story and those two fishermen were hanging on the hull of the boat and believed to have been in the water for up to thirty minutes. Both were taken aboard the Harbormaster’s vessel and were conscious and alert but suffering from hypothermia.

Following immediate treatment at the Town Pier, the two victims were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for further treatment and evaluation. Assisting in the rescue efforts were Wellfleet Police, Eastham Fire, Orleans Fire, the Eastham Natural Resources Department, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
