The Yarmouth PD Stephen H. Peterson Emergency 911 Dispatch Center Dedicated

Today, on the first birthday without him being with us, the Yarmouth Police Department dedicated our Emergency 911 Dispatch Center in memory of longtime Yarmouth Police Department Emergency 911 Dispatcher Stephen H. Peterson who passed away December 10, 2018.

The dedication ceremony took place at the Evening Shift Roll Call with over 40 Police Employees present; as well as our Town Administrator and Assistant Town Administrator.

Joining us at the ceremony was Stephen’s brother Alan.

Steve began his Yarmouth Police Career as a Summer Police Officer in 1979 and was appointed a Full Time Dispatcher in December of 1979.

Steve attended Yarmouth Schools and was a 1974 graduate of Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School.

Immediately after graduation, Steve enlisted in the United State Marine Corps and proudly served with the Marines until 1979 when he was honorably discharged after attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant

Steve also earned an Associate in Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Cape Cod Community College.

Along with being a Full Time Emergency 911 Dispatcher, Steve was a Yarmouth Police Reserve Police Officer and held that position until 2008.

On December 27, 2018, Steve would have completed his 39th year as a Yarmouth Police Dispatcher.

Steve was a great Dispatcher who remained calm in the most hectic of situations. Steve received many awards and commendations throughout his career and kept them quietly to himself.

Steve was an icon who is sorely missed and will never be forgotten.
