Brewster FD Responds to House Fire on Main Street

A 200-year old home in Brewster suffered damage in a house fire Monday morning.

The Brewster Fire Department says it responded to 20-42 Main Street shortly after 8:30 a.m. to see flames coming from the roof of the 2-1/2 story home.

Firefighters say the fire was contained to the attic and roof. The initial investigation indicates the fire was caused by hot embers that escaped the home’s wood-burning stove.

The occupants of the house and their pets were able to escape injury and following an inspection of the property, were allowed back in their house which suffered minor water damage to the roof.
