Family Pantry of Cape Cod Toy Drive a Success

The Family Pantry of Cape Cod would like to thank all who donated to the Toy Drive this year. This 29th Annual Toy Day took place December 16, 2018; plans were in place to distribute toys to 1,000 children. Planning started Sept 1st and over seventy volunteers spent hundreds of hours to make this event happen.

Each child under 13 received a bag of toys valued at $50 as well as pajamas, a puzzle or a family game. Older children received gift certificates valued at $50, pajamas and a family game or puzzle. The Pantry gave away 100 bikes to kids age 10-14 who were entered into a lottery thanks to Matt Van Gelder and the Dennis Cycle Center, Van Gelder purchased and assembled the bikes thanks to donations by the Armbruster family in addition to an anonymous family from Chatham.

Elves were stationed at all pick up points to help fill each request as families came for pick up. Many hands made it possible to serve so many in need thanks to the organizational skills of Chairs Toni London and Jennifer Eldredge. This is a well-oiled machine built and refined over the years that allows over 500 families to receive toys and goodies in less than 4 hours.

The Family Pantry is supported each year in a large way by the Marines Toys for Tots drive, the Harwich and Dennis Homeless for the Holidays event that donated toys, food and funds, Mary Rose Griffin and family for the donation of all the pajama sets, Susan Adsit, who made sure every child received a hat and mittens and the corvette club of Cape Cod for their donation. The Harwich Chamber of Commerce had several businesses serving as collection spots for toys and gifts, notably Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Banks in Harwich Port and East Harwich, The Cooperative Bank of Cape Cod, William Raveis Real Estate,Talbots, Jack Conway, Stewart Painting, KOKO Fit Club and the Pantry’s own Second Glance Thrift Shop as well as from individuals who just dropped off at the Pantry. Cape Destinations donated the shuttle to move

volunteers to and from the Pantry and countless other businesses and individuals donated to the event.
