Chief of Staff John Kelly Will Leave White House by End of Year, Trump Says

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly leaving by end of year

President Donald Trump's White House chief of staff John Kelly will be leaving his post by the end of the year, the president said Saturday morning. Trump made the announcement about Kelly's future as he was leaving the White House for the Army-Navy game in Philadelphia.

"John Kelly will be leaving toward the end of the year,” the president told reporters.

Kelly, a retired four-star general, was brought on board in July 2017 to replace former Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus. His mission was to help organize the White House and limit access for staff who took advantage of the president's "open-door" policy in July 2017.

However, the president reportedly chafed at Kelly's management style, complaining about being "managed" by others, resisting some of the general's moves to instill discipline at the White House.

President Trump said that he will announce Kelly's replacement in the next few days.
