Mashpee Residents Say 'Yes' to Recreational Pot

Mashpee residents attending town meeting on Monday night rejected a proposed ban on recreational marijuana shops in town.

Statewide, Massachusetts voters approved a 2016 statewide referendum to legalize recreational marijuana; however, many communities on Cape Cod voted against the referendum.

The final tally to defeat the proposed ban was 309-258.

Earlier this month, the Cannabis Control Commission issued four final recreational marijuana licenses to two companies with recreational sales expected to begin in several weeks.

The two retail stores approved are in Northampton and Leicester.
