Yarmouth Crash Results in OUI Charge Against Driver

A crash early Sunday morning in West Yarmouth resulted in power being knocked out in the area and road closures for several hours.

An SUV hit a utility pole around 1:30 a.m. on Route 28 near Springer Lane, snapping the pole which caused the power outage. Yarmouth Police had to close down Route 28 between West Yarmouth Road and Higgins Crowell Road for a couple of hours.

The driver, Christopher Doyle, 48, of Groveland, MA escaped serious injury but was detained on suspicion of operating under the influence. Doyle failed a series of field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest and taken to YPD Headquarters and charged with OUI, Liquor, Operating Negligently so as to Endanger, and Marked Lanes Violation.

He faces arraignment today in Barnstable District Court.
