This Sunday is the 9th annual Big Nick’s Ride for the Fallen, an event to honor the memory of Nicholas G. Xiarhos, a D-Y Regional High School graduate and U.S. Marine who died in combat in Afghanistan nine years ago.
Nick was the son of Yarmouth Deputy Police Chief Steven Xiarhos, and is one of 16 Cape Cod natives who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country. The Deputy Chief tells WXTK News the ride not only honors the fallen but those who made it home alive. He says another fallen hero will be recognized this year: Yarmouth K9 Sgt. Sean Gannon who was killed in the line of duty in April.
Xiarhos says one thousand bikers will go through Sandwich and Barnstable and into Yarmouth and finish at D-Y Regional High School. For more information on Sunday’s ride visit ngxride.com.
