First Tagging of a Great White Shark This Season

Although a number of great white sharks have been spotted off the Cape over the past couple of weeks, none had been tagged – until Monday.

Shark researcher, Dr. Greg Skomal, working with the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy tagged a great white, estimated to be eleven feet long, off the coast of Truro. Skomal and his colleagues with the state Division of Marine Fisheries and the Conservancy, have tagged and catalogued more than 300 great whites over the first three years of what is a five-year study of the animals population.
