A Hyannis man is facing two charges of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer after a confrontation with Yarmouth Police on Sunday.
Two Yarmouth Patrol Officers were dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to the area of Route 28, near Camp Street, for a report of a male walking in the middle of the road and “challenging vehicles.”
The individual, later identified as 35-year old Jarred Adkins, was uncooperative with the officers and refused to answer questions or provide his name. When Adkins walked into the middle of Route 28, disrupting traffic in both directions, officers attempted to place him under arrest. A struggle ensued and in the process, Adkins hit both officers in the head with his forearm and elbow. Officers used a Taser on Adkins twice with no effect. He was eventually subdued and taken to YPD headquarters where he continued to be uncooperative. It was there where the officers learned his identity through electronic fingerprints.
Adkins is a convicted violet felon, currently on probation, with 31 prior charges in Massachusetts. He was held at Yarmouth Police Department Headquarters on $500 cash bail and taken to the Barnstable District Court this morning for arraignment.
