Sandwich Man Leads Police on Chase, Facing Charges

A Sandwich man is facing a slew of charges, including Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, after leading police on a car and foot chase.

The incident happened shortly after 10:30 Sunday morning when Sandwich Police responded to the Ryder Conservation area. They received a report of an unconscious man in a vehicle with a syringe in the passenger seat. The officers identified the man as John Gagnon, 29, of Sandwich. As they were attempting to check on his well-being, Gagnon refused to cooperate, struck one officer in the arm and then fled in his vehicle, almost hitting both officers.

The pursuit continued from Sandwich, into Barnstable, and then back to Sandwich with Gagnon driving dangerously and running other drivers off the road. As he approached the Sagamore Bridge, Gagnon exited his car and fled on foot towards the power lines. He was soon apprehended and taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Gagnon has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (vehicle), Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, OUI Drugs, Operating to endanger, and Failure to Stop for Police.
