Details on New Bourne Fire Station Location in Flux

Plans for a new fire station in Bourne are still in flux.

The Bourne Enterprise reports the group overseeing that project south of the Cape Cod Canal – the South Side Fire Station Design & Feasibility Building Committee – made that announcement at their May 30th meeting which was held at the Pocasset Civic Association building on Barlows Landing Road. Normally, the committee meets at the Sagamore Beach Fire Station but the venue change was made to accommodate residents who will most likely be impacted by the new station.

About a dozen residents attended the meeting to voice concerns about the prospect of the new station being built where a ballfield currently sits.

A recent study indicated that building the new station next to the current Pocasset station, which abuts the ballfield, would be the ideal location for a number of reasons. It would remove the new station from the flood zone and the property is already owned by the town. The downside of that location would be the loss of the ballfield.
