The Steamship Authority says following repairs to both ferries, the M/V Martha’s Vineyard and the M/V Woods Hole are back in operation.
The SSA says the main fuel oil transfer pump on the Martha’s Vineyard was not generating enough pressure to transfer fuel oil properly, leading to the vessel losing power about 15 minutes after departing Vineyard Haven on Saturday night. A backup fuel transfer pump was installed and following test runs and further inspection by the Coast Guard, the vessel was cleared to return to service and is now operating on its normal schedule.
Meanwhile, a new control mechanism was installed last night on the M/V Woods Hole. That vessel is undergoing certain tests but is expected to be fully operational today, though some of its scheduled trips may be delayed from time to time as it is integrated back into its normal schedule.
