Barnstable Enacts New Policy on Roadside Signs

The Town of Barnstable has instituted a new policy for signs placed at traffic rotaries and memorial sites.

A statement released by the town’s Building Department says officials have reviewed and updated the guidelines because of the public’s expressed desire to maintain the quiet dignity and decorum of memorial sites, as well as to address safety concerns regarding motor vehicle traffic “line of site.”

Signs may still be posted, however, as part as an “event” under the town’s discretion; new guidelines state no more than 20 signs can be placed during any event, with each sign at least 500 feet away from the next.

The revised policy can be accessed through the Town of Barnstable website.
