MassWorks Grants Presented to Cape Communities

The town of Barnstable is getting almost $4 million from the state in the form of grants for infrastructure improvements.

Housing and Economic Development Secretary Jay Ash says the MassWorks grants will be used for the Hyannis Regional Commercial Center Traffic and Pedestrian Improvements project. That endeavor will make improvements to roadways and make pedestrian access at two intersections easier. The intersections are Wilkins and Attucks Lanes and Independence Drive and Breeds Hill Road.

Lt Governor Karyn Polito was in Bourne late last week presenting a MassWorks grant of $1.5 million to the town. That money will go towards the Buzzards Bay Wastewater Treatment Facility project, which will install a 100,000 gallon-per-day system to increase the existing capacity. That will allow for business expansion in the area, including a 100-room Hampton Inn and Suites, a 120-unit senior living structure, and other retail space.
