Inspectors from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission are at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth.
The inspectors, on Monday, began the requalification exam process for reactor operators, an NRC requirement every two years.
The operators will be subjected to both written and hands-on tests with the latter being tested in “the simulator”, an exact replica of the control room used in the power plant.
This will be the final requalification for the reactor operators prior to the nuclear plant’s shutdown in 2019.
The NRC views the Pilgrim plant as one of the worst in the nation. It is one of three reactors under the Commission’s highest level of scrutiny because of numerous safety violations and unplanned shutdowns.
