Femur Fossil Found in Whydah Concretion

As if the Whydah Pirate Museum wasn’t interesting enough already.

Barry Clifford and his team of divers have found a concretion weighing more than 35-hundred pounds of the coast of the Cape. The find is from the pirate ship Whydah, which sank in 1717.

Clifford and his staff believe they have found a bone inside the concretion; a bone believed to be a femur from one of the pirates on board the Whydah. Archeologists at the museum are in the process  of preserving the femur and fibers of clothes believed to have been once worn by a real pirate.

DNA testing is scheduled next to find out who the person was and may help indentify a living descendant.
