A staff member from the Duck Inn Pub on Main Street in Hyannis came to the aid of a Barnstable Police officer and in the process prevented what likely would have been a serious assault.
Thursday morning, just before 1 a.m., officer James Melia was dispatched to the pub for a report of trouble with an intoxicated male. Staff members pointed out the man who was starting fights with other patrons and he was identified as Mark Zwick, 44, of West Yarmouth. Zwick was uncooperative with officer Melia and began a fight with him. The two ended up on the floor of the pub and a staff member identified as David Duncan came over to assist the officer, saying, “I’ve got your back.”
Duncan then started yelling, “Drop the knife! Drop the knife!” at another man who was moving towards the officer Melia with a knife in his hand. He was only a couple of feet away from Melia when Duncan intercepted him and was able to disarm him. Shortly thereafter, more officers arrived on the scene and placed both Zwick and the other male in custody.
The second male was identified as Christopher Robson, 49, of Hyannis. He is being charged with Assault by Means of a Dangerous Weapon – knife. Robson will be arraigned in Barnstable District Court.
