Now here’s some news that may interest you beachgoers.
Researchers from University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center ran a trial where volunteers agreed to an ultraviolet radiation induced sunburn. They were then given either a high dose of vitamin D3 one hour later, or a placebo.
And they found that the people who took the vitamin D had a rapid reduction in levels of proinflammatory substances and higher levels of anti-inflammatory substances associated with genes related to the repair of the skin barrier.
The people who had the placebo had just the opposite results.
Now I’m not going to tell you the dose of vitamin D because it was extremely high and at a level that potentially could cause harm, but who knows, in the future it may be considered a remedy for sunburn.
And in other news, researchers from Ohio State University found an association between daily tomato consumption and a 50% reduction in skin cancer in mice. Again, this is probably due to the antioxidants in tomatoes, which are anti-inflammatory. Too much inflammation can lead to cellular damage, a root cause of cancer.
This is Joan Trimble wishing you wellness.
