The Hyannis Fire-Rescue Department now has its eleventh Chief.
Peter Burke Jr. was sworn in, Monday, to succeed former chief Harold Brunelle who retired at the end of 2016.
Burke started his career in his hometown of Swansea before joining the Seekonk Fire Department. He left Seekonk to serve as the deputy chief of the Barnstable District so he was quite familiar with many attending Monday’s Assumption of Command ceremony.
Burke is an adjunct professor at Cape Cod Community College and an instructor at the Mass Firefighting Academy. He is also a member of the District Hazardous Materials Response Team.
