SSA Releases Names of MV Iyanough Captain, Pilot

The Steamship Authority has released the names of the captain and pilot on board the M/V Iyanough the night it struck the Hyannis breakwater on June 16, 2017.

An official with the Steamship Authority confirms for WXTK that Karl Riddar was the captain and Thomas Manley was the pilot that night.

Both men had been on paid administrative leave during  the investigation into the accident, but are now back to work in a limited capacity under supervision until their fitness for returning to work on a regular basis can be determined.

The Iyanough was making its final run from Nantucket to Barnstable on the night of the accident when the crew mistakenly identified the pole at the end of the jetty as a buoy marker and grounded on the rocks before they could stop the vessel.

The ferry was carrying 48 passengers, six crew members and three food service workers. 15 people were injured in the crash.

The U.S. Coast Guard is continuing its investigation into the cause of the accident.
