"Tech Talk" Writes and Makes Headlines

“Tech Talk”, the school newspaper of Cape Cod Regional Technical High Schools, has been recognized for excellence. The paper, last month, received a 1st place award from the American Scholastic Press Association.

The ASPA every year judges hundreds of school newspapers throughout the U.S. on six criteria. “Tech Talk” was one of 14 papers in its size category – enrollment between 500-to-1000 students – to earn the distinction.

Awards are nothing new for “Tech Talk”. In its brief 2-year existence, the school newspaper has been recognized by the Columbia Press Association, the Suffolk University Greater Boston High School Paper Competition, and the New England Scholastic Press Association.

According to the school’s news release;

“At the NESPA conference on May 5th, Tech Talk continued its winning ways with the paper earning Highest Achievement recognition in its class, student population between 400-700 students, and 1st Place All-New England, the highest award given in its class.  In addition, individual awards were also received: Samantha Lynott for an editorial, Emily Connolly received 2 awards for news story writing & feature writing, Robin Sears for her by-lined column and Morgan Gilbert-Koff received 3 awards-two for news photos and 1 for photo illustration.                                                         Besides having a staff of junior reporters who rotate each trimester and a team of senior editors, any student who wants to can contribute and get extra-credit in their English class.  The students are responsible for all the ideas, the writing, the photography and layout; they are overseen by a faculty advisor-Scott Dalton.
