Christy Mihos has died.

The former West Yarmouth resident, convenience store magnate, and gubernatorial candidate succumbed to cancer while in hospice care in Stuart, Florida.

Mihos owned the Christy’s convenience store chain which, at its height, was comprised of 150 stores.

In 2005, he was named co-chair of the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, which opposed the idea and proposal by Cape Wind to construct a wind farm off the coast of Cape Cod.

Mihos ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2006 and in 2010.

In February he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer that was advanced enough for him to forego treatment.

A wake and funeral will be held Thursday in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Christy Mihos was 67 years old.
