New Balance Falmouth Road Race

At-Home

The New Balance Falmouth Road Race is back for 2020, and this year, we're presenting the virtual At-Home Edition!

The 48th running of the iconic race will be celebrated worldwide as a virtual event beginning August 15 – on the birthday of late founder Tommy Leonard – and concluding on August 29, with runners covering 7 miles in their own neighborhoods any time during that period.

Run or walk, all at once or a mile a day for 7 days – everyone can do this race!

"Unprecedented times lead to unprecedented opportunities," says Scott Ghelfi, president of the Falmouth Road Race, Inc. board of directors. "The 'At-Home Edition' gives us the opportunity to bring some fun and a sense of purpose to a summer of some uncertainty."

"For many, having a goal can make a huge difference," Ghelfi continues, "as can raising funds for a cause close to their heart. It's our way of helping us come together at home, keeping the Falmouth spirit alive."

Participate in the worldwide virtual event at your own pace. Run in your own neighborhood any time between August 15 and August 29. When you've completed your 7 miles, simply upload results to be listed among the finishers.

Registration is open! The cost of entry is $50 for individuals or $100 for a family of up to four members, including kids ages 10-23. (Family-rate entries will receive two sets of “swag.”)

We plan to "Surprise & Delight" all summer long! Every registered participant will receive an official personalized bib, a New Balance shopping bag, a buff, all-summer access to a dynamic virtual gift bag of coupons and special offers, a training program, online contests – including a chance to win a private Zoom session with elite athletes and VIPs – and, of course, the traditional and coveted mug.

SBLI Kids At-Home Challenge

Each year, the SBLI Family Fun Run is a highlight of New Balance Falmouth Road Race weekend.

With the 7-mile race this year being offered as a virtual "At-Home Edition" because of ongoing concerns over COVID-19, the popular SBLI event will be celebrated closer to home, too, giving kids the chance to join in.

In the SBLI Kids At-Home Challenge, children will not only be encouraged to run at least 7 minutes in a customizable race bib they will get in the mail, but the backside of the bib will list 7 challenges for them to complete. Challenges include calling a friend or relative; writing a note to a teacher, first responder or healthcare professional; and reading a book.

"The SBLI Family Fun Run has been part of summer on Cape Cod for nearly 20 years, enabling kids to take part in the famed Falmouth Road Race in a unique way," says James A. Morgan, president and CEO of SBLI. "Amid so much change and uncertainty, we are pleased to create this very special remote experience for kids and families to continue this tradition no matter where they are. SBLI is bringing the fun to the kids, in their own neighborhoods, wherever they live. These kids have truly been SuperHeroes as they've navigated so much change this year. Remaining active is a key part of staying healthy, and that has never been more important."

The SBLI Kids At-Home Challenge is open to 1,000 participants ages 3-9, and entry is free. In addition to the race bib, each child will receive crayons to personalize their bib; SBLI temporary tattoos; a "SuperHero SBLI" kid-sized, branded protective face mask; and a "SuperHero SBLI" cape as a reward for completing the 7 challenges between August 15 and August 29 – the same two-week window in which adults and children 10 and over can complete the 7 miles of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race At-Home Edition in their neighborhoods. Afterward, parents can post on social media using the hashtags #falmouthroadrace, #NBFRR, #NBFRRAtHome, #KidsAtHome and #SBLI.
