The Center for Coastal Studies Marine Debris and Plastics Program is gearing up for a big cleanup event on Cuttyhunk Island.
Through the use of SNEP Watershed Implementation Grants, CCS and a team of volunteers will spend the week of May 19 through the 24 removing fishing gear and other marine debris from the shores of the southernmost Elizabethan Island.
Locals, fishermen, artists and environmental advocates will also join in to collect lobster traps, ropes and other fishing equipment that will be sorted and logged for recycling or repurposed as artwork.
