A Louisiana high school teacher is facing multiple charges after being accused of having sexual relations with at least one of her students. Authorities began investigating 35-year-old Alexa Wingerter in March after receiving reports that she was "sending inappropriate photographs and messages" to some of her male students at Slidell High School.

Officials said their investigation revealed that Wingerter allegedly bought students alcoholic beverages at local bars and was "involved in an inappropriate and sexual relationship with at least one 18-year-old male student, as she acted in the capacity of the student's educator."

Wingerter was taken into custody and charged with prohibited sexual conduct between an educator and student and unlawful purchase of alcoholic beverages on behalf of persons under 21. She was released after posting a $3,500 bond.

Authorities said there could be more victims and that Wingerter could face additional charges as the investigation progresses.

Wingerter is no longer employed by the St. Tammany Parish School District.

"The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority," St. Tammany Parish School District Superintendent Frank Jabbia said in a message to parents. "Any allegations of inappropriate conduct are taken very seriously and are reported directly to law enforcement officials."
