Barnstable Park And Ride Project Hits Bump In The Road

The planned four-million-dollar expansion of the Route 132 Barnstable Park and Ride lot has been postponed.

The Cape Cod Metropolitan Planning Organization amended its five-year plan for transportation improvements and struck off the parking lot project on the grounds of issues with the design plan.

Deputy Director Steven Tupper says the timing of the project does not line up with available funds.

Among the problems is the site and adjoining properties.

MassDOT owns and operates the site, and it is a hub for several bus and transit lines.

There are 365 spaces, but during tourist season it becomes difficult to find one.

There is no timetable for when the project will be taken up.
