Tolls For The Cape Cod Bridges? The Debate Continues

More debate about tolls as a way to pay for the construction of two Cape Cod Bridges.

Tolls have not been ruled out as a way to pay for the replacement of the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges.

MassDOT Secretary Monica Tibbits-Nutt said that while not a given, tolls may be a fall back strategy, but if federal funding does not come through in the next few years, it could be on the table for consideration.

The bridges are both nearly 90 years old and considered obsolete.

The total cost of replacing both spans is four-point-five-billion dollars.

Barely half that amount has been confirmed through the commonwealth, Army Corps of Engineers, and the Biden Administration.

Another one billion dollars in federal funds through the Bridge Investment Plan has not been granted.
