More Federal Dollars Headed To Cape Bridges

Some of the funding required to replace Cape Cod's two aging bridges has been approved.

President Joe Biden signed off on a package of six spending bills, in which 350 million dollars in funds for the Bourne and Sagamore Bridges is contained.

The full cost of replacing the two bridges, both of which are nearly 90 years old is four-point-five billion dollars.

MassDOT has called the spans functionally obsolete, as they are too narrow to meet current standards.

Officials and residents are seeking full funding for the project, through federal and state grants, plus the Healey Administration's capital investment plan.
