A fire in Yarmouth which left one person dead Tuesday was caused by careless smoking.
Authorities responded to a medical alert activation at around 10 pm at the Windrift Motel; the fire was out by the time authorities arrived, and the lone occupant of the room, a woman described as being in her sixties with limited mobility was found dead.
An improperly discarded cigarette was found to the be cause of the incident.
