The co-founder and longtime director of the Center for Coastal Studies' Right Whale Ecology Program is calling it a career.
Dr. Charles Mayo, better known as Stormy, is retiring after nearly 50 years on the job, saying he thinks it's time for new blood.
He's seen the center grow from a tiny group of volunteers in 1976 to the much larger organization it is now.
Dr. Daniel Palacios will take over for Stormy.
Palacios is a professor at Oregon State University.
