Upper Cape OK With Bike Path Near Railroad Tracks

A pair of Upper Cape towns are good with the idea of building a new bike path extension without disturbing the existing railroad tracks in Bourne.

Leaders in the towns of Falmouth and Mashpee voted in favor of keeping the tracks as part of a trail that would link the Shining Sea Bikeway in Falmouth and the Cape Cod Canal bike trail in Bourne.

The tracks are used to haul solid waste off-Cape and are occasionally employed by the National Guard, but town officials in Bourne want to see the tracks used as part of the bike path.

It appears more discussions will be needed before a final decision is made on how to move forward.
