Heavy Holiday Travel Expected

Triple-A Northeast is predicting a heavy Thanksgiving holiday travel period.

An estimated 55-point-four million people will travel 50 miles or more from home between this Wednesday and Sunday.

Just over 49 million are expected to travel by car, partly due to markedly lower gas prices, and a drop in oil prices in the past three weeks.

The average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in Massachusetts stands at three-dollars-42-cents, though costs on the Cape & Islands are higher.

Below-average prices can be found in Plymouth and Bristol Counties.

Motorists are urged to travel early in the morning or after 6 p.m. to beat the peak traffic.
