SSA Did Not Know Of Investigation Results

The governing board of the Steamship Authority claims it did not know of the results of an internal investigation into one of its vessels until they were released in the media last week.

The incident involving the M/V Sankaty took place July 27th, when the unoccupied vessel slipped its moorings and crashed into a dock in Woods Hole.

Documents from the investigation revealed that the Sankaty crew was warned the freight vessel was improperly moored, but no action was taken to secure the boat.

Further, this was the second time in three days the Sankaty had not been moored correctly.

The matter will be taken up by the SSA board at its November 21st meeting.
