Judge Decides Massachusetts Migrant Shelter Cap Today

A judge is expected to rule today on an effort to stop the state from capping the number of homeless families it provides with shelter.

The group Lawyers for Civil Rights is seeking an injunction to stop Governor Maura Healey's plan to set a cap on the number of families in the shelter system.

The plaintiffs say the state did not give the legislature 90 days' notice of the planned changes to the shelter system rules as required by law.

The Governor says since the state has no more money and resources; she was well within her rights to invoke her emergency powers.

A judge heard arguments yesterday and said a decision will likely be issued today.
