Governor Offers Help To Communities For Body Cams

Governor Maura Healey's administration is awarding about three-and-a-half-million dollars in grant money to Massachusetts police departments to implement or expand body cameras.

The recipients include the police departments of Bourne, Barnstable, Yarmouth, Fall River and New Bedford.

Healey says the technology strengthens police-community relations while improving investigations and advancing the fundamental principles of transparency and accountability.

The announcement comes as body camera footage was released of an officer-involved shooting that involved an armed suspect last week in Lakeville.
