State Rep: We Are Not Afraid!

The town of Yarmouth says the governor's office has placed six migrant families at the Harborside Suites motel in South Yarmouth.

Governor Maura Healey declared a state of emergency over the influx of migrants last month.

A plan to place homeless, migrant families in up to one-hundred rooms at the Yarmouth Resort in West Yarmouth was previously put on hold.

Town administrator Robert Whritenour says the commonwealth seems insistent on a Yarmouth location, while local officials continue to assert that the proper zoning to support the program is not in place.

Meantime, one State Rep is ready to have the debate on Beacon Hill. Steven Xhiaros says he will file a measure that would allow the state's four-year-old Right To House Law to be only for those who are legal residents.

"We're not going to just sit back and accept this situation here on Cape Cod. It's wrong, and we're not afraid to stand up and say so," the state rep said.
