A ban on nip alcohol bottles is being approved in New Bedford.
The city's board of licenses voted unanimously on Monday night.
The common refrain from Southern New England towns who have considered a similar measure is that nips cause twin problems of pollution and drunk-driving. Meanwhile, business owners argue that the move will impact their bottom line.
Package stores in New Bedford will be allowed to exhaust their current inventory before the ban takes effect.
There are also nip bans in Falmouth, Mashpee and Wareham.
