Opening statements were made in Barnstable Superior Court Friday morning in the murder trial of Thomas Latanowich.
The Somerville resident is accused of fatally shooting Yarmouth Police Sergeant Sean Gannon in 2018 as authorities were attempting to serve him an arrest warrant at a home in Marstons Mills.
Defense attorneys for the suspect argued Friday in their opening statement the shooting was in self-defense, as he believed that someone was trying to kill him in the days leading up to the shooting.
