Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe Celebrate Big Legal Win In Federal Court

In what’s being called a big legal win for the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe, the U.S. Department of the Interior withdrew its appeal against the tribe in federal court on Friday.

The case was over its legal sovereignty and plans to build a casino in Taunton.

Tribal Vice Chairwoman Jessie Little Doe Baird called it a “triumph” for citizens of the tribe and its ancestors.
