Martha's Vineyard Voters Will Decide On County Treasurer Position

Voters on Martha's Vineyard and the rest of Dukes County are being asked in the General Election if they want to change the position of county treasurer from elected to appointed.

If voters approve the measure, the change will take place in 2027, and the task will be handled by the Dukes County commissioner board.

The appointment would be indefinite unless there is a removal for misconduct or a similar reason.

The Martha's Vineyard Times reports four Dukes commissioners supported the idea in an endorsement letter earlier this month, while one commissioner expressed opposition.
