Cape Cod is going to be the first of the areas looking for an exemption from the federal mandate to re-number exit numbers to reflect mileage rather than sequential numbering.
State Lawmakers will ask the DOT to exempt Route 6 from the new numbering system.
Lawmakers contend the Route is mostly rural and wouldn’t make any sense to re-do.
The changeover in system is expected to be completed in about two years.
