Wellfleet Mansion On Verge of Collapse

A near-$5 million mansion in Wellfleet is on the verge of collapsing.

Wicked Local/Provincetown reports the home, built in 2010 on land in the Cape Cod National Seashore called “The Gut”, sits on a dune that is eroding from beneath it.

The construction of the mansion was the subject of much litigation. The property was purchased in 2006 by Mark and Barbara Blasch and they leveled the existing structure in 2008. Their proposal for a building at twice the height and three times the footprint resulted in numerous lawsuits from both residents and town officials. They were eventually granted permission to build although the outcry led to Wellfleet passing various zoning amendments.

Now, the conservation commission has unanimously rejected a proposal to save the multi-million dollar home, saying the couple knew about the issues with the location when they built the home.
