7th OUI Arrest for Centerville Man

A Centerville man is facing a 7th OUI arrest after nearly hitting a Barnstable cruiser.

Barnstable Police say 62-year old Edward Flanagan nearly struck a marked cruiser being driven by Officer Dan Ruth at the intersection of Route 28 and Phinney’s Lane in Centerville around 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Officer stopped Flanagan for failing to yield the right-of-way and in the course of a conversation with the driver, it was determined he displayed signs of intoxication. Following several field sobriety tests, Flanagan was placed under arrest. Further investigation revealed Flanagan’s driver’s license was revoked as a result of previous OUI convictions, four in Florida and two prior arrests in Massachusetts. The Officer also discovered two open containers of alcohol under the driver’s seat.

Flanagan was taken to the Barnstable Police Station where he was booked on charges of Operating Under the Influence –Liquor, 7th Offense, Operating with a Revoked License, Failure to Yield at an Intersection, Operating to Endanger, and Operating with an Open Container. He was held overnight at the Barnstable Police Station before being taken to Barnstable District Court for arraignment Thursday.
