Brewster Voters: No Pot Shops in Town, Thank You

At the Fall Town Meeting in Brewster Monday night, the warrant was short and so were some tempers.

After considerable – and sometimes contentious – debate, residents approved a ban on recreational marijuana shops in the town. Article 13 seeking the ban passed by a vote of 632 in favor and 561 against. Opponents of the article sought reconsideration late into the evening but were rejected.

The ban does not stop the sale of medical marijuana, however, the company seeking both types of establishments says a medical marijuana facility on its own would not survive in the town of 98-hundred.

Brewster voters did reject a zoning change that would have lengthened the distance any marijuana shop would have to be from places of worship or schools.
