APCC Seeking Assistance from MA AG Healey

The Association to Preserve Cape Cod has sent a letter to Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey calling for her to oppose Entergy’s request to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to exempt the Pilgrim Nuclear Plant in Plymouth from certain emergency planning requirements when the plant shuts down in 2019.

Included in Entergy’s request is an exemption from continuance of the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone around the nuclear station.

The APCC acknowledges in the letter that Cape Cod is located outside of that zone but the organization expressed concern that the request to relax a public safety requirement could potentially set a dangerous precedent.

The letter was also sent to U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, 9th District Congressman Bill Keating, and the entire Cape and Islands legislative delegation.
